In the late-nineteenth century and early twentieth century the most significant and most representative public buildings were built in the area close to the Old City. Architect A. Reinbergs (1860 - 1908) built the building of State Bank (1902-05) in the territory of the former Citadel's fortress in shapes of Italian Renaissance style.
